I attended the Creating Producing workshop with Nick Hennegan at the weekend. Ten people, all curious about producing and creating their own theatre, but from quite different backgrounds.
Nick had just finished the MA in Creative Producing at Birkbeck, and was able to share with us the fruits of that course.
We covered all the main "starters for ten" to know when setting out producing, including:
- Creating a product
- Finding a market
- Finding funding, including "Angels"
- Devising a budget
- Publicity, PR and marketing
- Forming a company
- a practical exercise, with a calculator!
It was an excellent course - Nick combined solid helpings of advice and experience with sprinklings of anecdotal experience, which was a great combination.
Above all, the advice was: if you want to produce, produce!
